PP Brighton Office Seagull Rescue

Baby seagull rescue mission at Plummer Parsons Brighton office!
Monday 19th July, found an unexpected intruder in the courtyard at 4 Frederick Terrace. A young seagull (pretty ugly looking) had somehow fallen into the courtyard and could not get out.
It seemed that Ugly gully, did not know how to fly and so continuously ran up and down the courtyard and then kept flying into the patio doors.
So whilst we hate seagulls, we didn’t like to see this littl'un in distress. We did a search on the web to work out the best way to get rid of this intruder.
RSPB website- apparently doesn’t call them or ask them for advice! Brilliant.
RSPCA website- catch the critter in a box and take to the nearest shelter and they will look after.
National Seagull Rescue centre- are apparently inundated with phone calls at the moment- up to 70 a day, about baby seagulls. They run a shelter in Woodingdean, which currently holds 900 birds, run by just two volunteers.
Her advice- catch it and put it back on the roof it fell off. Having explained that this was 3 storey building, and that I wouldn’t be climbing anywhere in my stiletto’s, she told me not to feed or water the youngster. She did explain that we risked attack by the parents if we went in the courtyard, and also from he bird itself. We discussed the whole circle of life, and how the urban fox would soon be on his way to eat the little one.
Finally she suggested I catch the bird in a recycling box and take it directly to the beach. Hmmmmmm
the boys in the office were all happy to leave the youngster to die, so me and Mrs P, took matters into our own hands.
Tuesday 20th July, and armed with two recycling boxes and pink gloves, Mrs P managed to coax the bird into the box. It was then driven in style and at some speed (obviously not breaking any speed limits) to the beach.
Where Ugly Gully was released into the wild.....
I hate seagulls but I hope this one survives.
A heart warming tale. Happy days.
